Strategic partnership aims to power a new category of sustainable solar-powered connected devices by pairing Ambient’s indoor solar cell technology and e-peas semiconductors.
Scotts Valley, Calif., and Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium, Aug. 30, 2023 — Ambient Photonics and e-peas are partnering to co-develop and market solutions that enable a new category of solar-powered connected devices. The companies have designed solutions that pair Ambient’s breakthrough high power density, low-cost indoor solar cells with e-peas’ ultra-efficient power management integrated circuits (PMICs). Together this dramatically improves the availability of connected devices, enabling device manufacturing partners to take disposable batteries out of the products they build entirely.
Ambient Photonics is a leader in indoor-optimized solar technology, manufacturing cells that harvest 300 percent more energy from indoor light than traditional indoor solar cells, and e-peas is a leader in PMIC solutions for energy harvesting-based power supplies, enabled by their Ambient Energy Management (AEM) product family. Under the strategic partnership, Ambient and e-peas jointly optimize, go-to-market, and fully support solutions that include best-in-class devices produced by the partners.
Customers will benefit from knowing that a strategic partnership for these joint solutions is in place, giving them the confidence to build connected devices that will maximize the conversion of endless energy available from indoor lighting. End users will benefit from never having to replace batteries in devices like remote controls, keyboards, sensors and electronic shelf labels, and the environment will benefit from avoiding billions of disposable batteries in landfills every year.
“Our partnership with e-peas builds upon years of high-level collaboration and a mutual commitment to driving a sustainability revolution in the connected market,” said Bates Marshall, CEO and Co-founder of Ambient Photonics. “The combination of our respective technologies promises to convert more clean energy from indoor light into power for connected devices than any other solution on the market.”
“This partnership solidifies our mutual commitment to innovating the next generation of electronics in support of our manufacturing clients,” said Geoffroy Gosset, CEO and Co-founder of e-peas. “By working with the Ambient team to bring transformative power management solutions to market, we are creating a new blueprint for energizing sustainable, connected devices.”
Ambient and e-peas are both technology leaders with complementary energy harvesting and power management capabilities. Ambient’s unique solar cells harness the full indoor ambient light spectrum with breakthrough high power densities, and e-peas products drastically increase conversion efficiency of this energy, reducing the energy consumption of devices to extend overall device lifetime and avoid costly battery replacements. Each company provides high performance product designs at mass production price points for the world’s leading global electronics manufacturers.
